In the early hours of August 7, 1993, Tammy Lorraine Niver, a 24-year-old mother of two, vanished from Superior Township, Michigan. At the time, she was a student at Washtenaw Community College, taking courses in accounting and computers, and also worked at a local dry cleaner's. Just the day before her disappearance, she had moved out of the home she shared with her ex-boyfriend, Gregory Agnew. In the predawn hours, at approximately 2:30 a.m., she drove to Agnew's residence to pick up some of her remaining personal items. According to Agnew, they spoke for a short time before she departed. Tammy was last seen wearing a red and white sweater, white pants, red socks, and white loafers. She has not been seen or heard from since that morning. Later that morning, around 11:00 a.m., a borrowed 1979 Mercury Marquis that Tammy had been driving was discovered abandoned and illegally parked on Cornell Street in Ypsilanti. The vehicle was found in the middle of the road with the engine still running and the keys in the ignition. There was no sign of Tammy at the scene. The circumstances of her disappearance were immediately concerning to her family, particularly because she was a diabetic who required daily insulin injections to manage her condition and she did not have her medication with her. Authorities and loved ones initiated searches, with detectives and K-9 units combing through nearby woods and waters, but their efforts yielded no clues as to her whereabouts. Over the years, the investigation into Tammy's disappearance has continued, though no charges have ever been filed in connection with her case. Her ex-boyfriend, Gregory Agnew, has long been considered a person of interest. Friends and family reported that their relationship had been troubled, with Tammy's sister stating that Agnew had been violent towards her and that Tammy feared for her life. In a strange turn of events years later, a friend of Tammy's, who had briefly been the guardian of her children after she vanished, married Agnew. In 2018, while they were going through a divorce, she was found murdered. Agnew was subsequently convicted of her murder and sentenced to life in prison. Despite these developments and the ongoing suspicion, the case of what happened to Tammy Niver remains an unsolved and heart-wrenching mystery. Foul play is suspected in her disappearance, and her loved ones are still searching for answers and closure.
