Melisa Maureen Sloan, a 23-year-old nurse, was last seen on May 1, 1994, at her apartment on South Kirkman Road in Orlando, Florida. Originally from Kentucky, Melisa had moved to Florida with her husband, John Sloan, in 1993 so he could attend school. Their marriage was troubled, with two domestic violence incidents reported in the months before her disappearance. In one case, John was arrested, and Melisa was scheduled to testify against him shortly after she went missing.
