In the small city of Kenai, Alaska, a 29-year-old woman named Loreese Sophia Hennagin vanished on October 10, 1996, leaving behind a web of mystery and unanswered questions. Loreese, who sometimes went by the nicknames Lori or Loree and the last name Martin, had been a resident of Kenai since 1981. Her disappearance was not a simple case of a person gone missing; it was deeply entangled with the dangerous world of drug trafficking and a thirst for revenge. In early 1996, Loreese and her boyfriend, Rusty Seaman, were allegedly involved in the robbery of his mother, Joan "Avis" McGahan, in Anchorage. They were accused of stealing a significant quantity of cocaine, jewelry, and cash. This act is believed to have set in motion a tragic chain of events, as authorities suspect that Rusty's brother, Rocky Nestor Seaman, and McGahan conspired to murder Loreese in retaliation. The plot against Loreese allegedly involved a local drug dealer named Jeffrey Lackey. According to Lackey's testimony, Rocky Seaman enlisted his help in the plan, offering him cocaine and the forgiveness of a monetary debt in exchange for his cooperation. The plan was to lure Loreese to an isolated area near her Kenai home. On October 9, 1996, Lackey followed her to a K-Mart, where he pretended to run into her by chance. He convinced her to meet for drinks later that evening. After returning to her apartment and using crack cocaine, they walked to a nearby beach. It was there, shortly after midnight on October 10, that Lackey signaled Rocky by paging him twice. Lackey testified that when Rocky arrived, he struck Loreese, at which point Lackey fled the scene. Loreese Hennagin was never seen or heard from again. Her friends and family reported her missing the following day. In the aftermath of her disappearance, both Rocky Seaman and his mother, Avis McGahan, were arrested and imprisoned on drug trafficking charges in October 1997. They were later charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to kidnap and murder Loreese. Jeffrey Lackey, in a plea deal, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and became a key witness, testifying against Rocky during his trial in early 2001. While the jury acquitted Rocky of the murder charges, they found him guilty on two counts of conspiracy in April 2001, resulting in a 90-year prison sentence. Rocky was known to have an extensive criminal history with multiple prior assaults. Despite the convictions, the case remains a painful open wound for those who knew Loreese, as her body has never been recovered. At the time she vanished, she left behind a child who was placed in the care of her former husband.
