In the autumn of 1996, a 37-year-old man named Michael Jose Malinowski traveled from his home in Yardley, Pennsylvania, with plans for a brief escape to hike and take photographs. On Thursday, October 24, 1996, after attending a psychology seminar, he drove approximately 200 miles north to the scenic Pine Creek Gorge in Tioga County, an area often referred to as the 'Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania'.
