Harold William Roland, a 50-year-old man, was last seen on July 21, 1997, near Lake Sam Rayburn in Texas. On the day of his disappearance, Roland, who owned a lake house in San Augustine County, informed a witness that he planned to go fishing. He was driving a gray 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck with a pontoon boat and trailer at the time.
Several days after Roland was reported missing, his truck was found abandoned and burned in a dense pine thicket about 30 miles from Powell Park,
where he had been staying. His boat trailer was later discovered in a separate location, and the pontoon boat was found hidden under trees with bullet or shotgun holes in the pontoons, further suggesting foul play. Despite extensive searches, including the recovery of various personal items and the discovery of his boat in a damaged state, Roland has never been found.
