On the morning of March 14, 1998, 39-year-old Leonard "Lenny" Dirickson, a male from Strong City, Oklahoma, was at his farmhouse with his teenage son when a stranger arrived. The man, who has never been identified, pulled up in a white 1994 Ford F-150 pickup truck. After a brief conversation outside, Dirickson came back into the house and informed his son that the man was interested in a stud horse he had for sale. He told his son he would be going with the man to view horses in Elk City, Oklahoma, and Mobeetie, Texas, and would return later that afternoon. Dirickson then left with the unidentified man and has not been seen or heard from since. The mysterious visitor was described as a white male, approximately 41 years old, 6'2" tall, and weighing around 210 pounds, with a reddish-brown beard. He was reportedly wearing a blue jacket, a striped Western-style shirt, blue jeans, and a black baseball cap with a "No Fear" logo. The pickup truck he was driving was an extended cab model and possibly had New Mexico license plates. A perplexing aspect of the case is that Dirickson had not advertised a horse for sale, raising questions as to how the stranger knew about the horse and the location of the remote farmhouse. The investigation revealed no evidence that Dirickson ever made it to his barn in Elk City or to Mobeetie. Over the years, a few potential sightings of Dirickson were reported, but none have been confirmed. A waitress in Elk City reported seeing a man matching Dirickson's description with another man at the Kettle Restaurant around 11:00 a.m. on the day he disappeared; however, his family found this unlikely as he had already eaten breakfast. Six months later, a man called from a bar in Amarillo, Texas, claiming to be sitting next to Dirickson. By the time law enforcement arrived, both the caller and the man believed to be Dirickson were gone. Theories in Dirickson's disappearance range from foul play to a voluntary departure, with some speculating he may have wanted to escape financial difficulties following a recent divorce and the sale of his dairy business. However, his family maintains that he was very close to his son and would not have willingly abandoned him. His last paycheck was left uncashed, and there has been no activity on his credit cards since he vanished. The case remains a mystery, marked by the strange circumstances of a man who seemingly vanished after leaving with an unknown individual for a business transaction that may never have been real.
