William Clark Crumpacker, a 37-year-old marketing manager for Dell, disappeared under mysterious circumstances on March 16, 1998, while spending the night on his boat with his two young sons at Lake Travis, Texas. That evening, after telling his children he was going for a swim to clean off, he left the boat but never returned. The next morning, his sons found their father missing, and a blue bath towel was discovered partially wrapped around a bush on the shore, indicating that Crumpacker may
have reached land after his swim.
Despite being an experienced boater and swimmer, Crumpacker is believed to have succumbed to hypothermia in the 55-degree water and drowned. His boat was anchored near Little Devils Cove, with both of its batteries dead, and the water around the area was about 35 feet deep. Although his body was never recovered, the evidence suggests a tragic swimming accident.
