Samantha Kibalo, a 2-year-old girl, was last seen on February 3, 2001, in Suffern, New York. She was abducted by her non-custodial mother, Ann Yermak Kibalo, during a court-ordered visitation. The child had been in the midst of a custody dispute between her parents, with Samantha’s father, Michael Kibalo, having primary custody. Following the abduction, Ann failed to return Samantha to her father as scheduled, leading to a warrant for her arrest.
Ann had made repeated, unsubstantiated accusations against Michael, claiming he abused Samantha. These claims were found to be false after multiple investigations. A psychiatrist who evaluated the case believed Ann might suffer from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a condition that could lead her to subject Samantha to unnecessary medical treatments. Despite this, Ann abducted her daughter, and they have been missing ever since.
Ann and Samantha's last known vehicle, a black Suzuki Sidekick, was found abandoned in Brooklyn, New York, two months after they disappeared. Since then, there have been sporadic reports of sightings, including in New Mexico in 2006, but none have been confirmed. Authorities believe Samantha may be at risk due to potential abuse before her disappearance.
