Margarette Ann Cuauhtli, a 16-year-old high school student from Arlington, Texas, was last seen at her home on the morning of October 11, 2001. At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a shirt, mini-skirt, and black boots with a zipper. Margarette had distinctive features, including a scar on her right leg and often wore either glasses or blue-tinted contact lenses. She went by her middle name, Ann.

Her adoptive father, Gabriel Cuauhtli, initially reported her as a runaway, claiming she had left with her boyfriend. However, his account changed over time, and he later alleged that Margarette had been abducted by the Mexican Mafia and sold into prostitution. He claimed men had come to their home demanding ransom. Gabriel also presented emails he said were from Margarette, claiming she was being held in Mexico. Upon investigation, the emails were traced back to Gabriel’s office computer, and authorities determined they were fabricated.

In 2002, Gabriel was arrested on suspicion of abducting his daughter, but those charges were eventually dropped. He was later convicted of unrelated embezzlement charges and tampering with evidence. Despite extensive searches, including under a patio built shortly after her disappearance, no trace of Margarette has been found. Authorities continue to suspect foul play, and her case remains unsolved.
