Kimberly Mimmovich, aged 37, was last seen on December 9, 2001, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. At the time of her disappearance, she had been living in Lake Wales, Florida, and was in a tumultuous relationship with her boyfriend, Dion Kaseta. The couple reportedly traveled to Deerfield Beach for a visit to Kaseta’s sister. According to Kaseta, Mimmovich wanted to take a walk alone on the beach to watch the sunrise. He claimed that after dropping her off, she never returned.
Mimmovich was never seen again after that morning.
Kimberly was dealing with serious health issues, including asthma and diabetes, for which she needed medication. However, she left her insulin kit and inhaler behind, raising concerns that she would not have voluntarily disappeared. Additionally, she left her beloved pet dog and her phone, and her family insisted that it was unlike her to leave without making arrangements.
Kaseta did not report Kimberly missing until the following day, and his version of events came under scrutiny. Investigators doubted that Kimberly had ever been at the beach that morning, as there were inconsistencies in Kaseta’s story. Witnesses reported hearing an argument between the couple the night before her disappearance, followed by sounds of a physical struggle inside their home.
In 2010, nearly a decade after Kimberly’s disappearance, Kaseta was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. By 2012, his charge was reduced to manslaughter, and he eventually pleaded no contest, receiving a seven-year prison sentence.
