In the early hours of February 7, 2004, 25-year-old Robert Jason MacRae, known to his loved ones as Jason, embarked on a spontaneous canoeing trip in Puget Sound with a friend, Jason Lee Shallock. At approximately 4:00 a.m., MacRae made a call to his girlfriend to let her know of their plans. This would be the last time he was heard from. Later that morning, the canoe they were in overturned, leading to a tragic outcome. The pair had been enjoying the waters near Seattle, Washington, when the incident occurred. MacRae was a white male with brown hair and brown eyes, stood at 5'10", and weighed around 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black windbreaker, a black t-shirt, and dark jeans. He also had two hoop earrings in his left ear. Distinctive features included a left pinky nail painted purple and scars on his right hip, right knee, back, and elbow from cycling. The impromptu canoeing trip turned to tragedy when the vessel overturned in the cold waters of Puget Sound. Later that same morning, the body of MacRae's friend, Jason Lee Shallock, was recovered from the water at Alki Point. It is believed that he became entangled in a tow rope and drowned. Despite extensive search efforts by the U.S. Coast Guard, Seattle Harbor Patrol, and Seattle Fireboat crews, there was no sign of MacRae. Authorities believe that MacRae also drowned in the accident, but his body has never been found. Born in Tripoli, Libya, Robert Jason MacRae spent his formative years in Alaska and Canada before his family settled in Washington. He was known for his fearless nature and his passion for music, extreme sports, and riding his Italian bicycle. Friends and family remember him for his quick wit, upbeat personality, and as a tender, kind, and loyal friend. The case remains a painful mystery for his loved ones. The official belief is that MacRae perished in the boating accident alongside his friend. Without the recovery of his remains, however, the full circumstances of what happened on Puget Sound that February morning remain partially unknown, leaving a void for a family who remembers him as a vibrant and adventurous young man.
