His father, Roderick Fountain, reported that Kendrick vanished while he briefly left the apartment to do laundry.
Initially, there were reports that Kendrick might have been seen with an unidentified man at a nearby bus stop, leading authorities to consider the possibility of an abduction.
However, the investigation soon shifted focus, and Fountain became a key suspect. He was arrested shortly after for filing a false police report and later charged with causing injury to a child due to evidence of prior abuse. Fountain's story was inconsistent, and witnesses reported seeing bruises on Kendrick before his disappearance. By 2009, Fountain was charged with Kendrick's murder, though Kendrick’s body was never recovered. Prosecutors argued that Fountain had killed his son unintentionally during a beating, a claim supported by testimonies from former cellmates who stated that Fountain admitted to disposing of Kendrick's body.
In 2011, Roderick Fountain was convicted of Kendrick’s murder and sentenced to life in prison, despite the lack of physical evidence, such as the child’s body.
