In the late summer of 2010, Nikki Lyn Forrest, a 19-year-old woman, was navigating a period of transition in her life. At four and a half months pregnant, she was facing the challenges of a high-risk pregnancy, having experienced three previous miscarriages. Her appearance was distinguished by piercings in her tongue and ears, and several tattoos: a scarecrow on her arm with the caption 'If only I had a brain,' a moth on her stomach, and a bat with a Celtic knot on her lower back. The days leading up to her disappearance were marked by instability and conflict, setting the stage for a series of events that would leave her loved ones searching for answers for years to come. On September 25, 2010, the day she was last seen, Nikki had an argument with her godmother, with whom she was staying in Piqua, Ohio, over house rules. Following the disagreement, Nikki packed her belongings and left the residence. She sent a text message to her stepmother, assuring her that she was safe and mentioning a possible plan to move out of state with a friend. From Piqua, she traveled approximately eight miles to the nearby town of Troy. There, she reportedly visited a girlfriend before walking to the home of her ex-boyfriend, the potential father of her unborn child. An argument ensued between Nikki and her ex-boyfriend concerning the paternity of the baby. According to the ex-boyfriend's account to police, he placed her luggage outside his home. Shortly after, a blue car arrived, Nikki got into the vehicle with the unidentified driver, and was driven away. She has not been seen or heard from since that evening. A few days after Nikki vanished, a troubling discovery was made. An unidentified elderly couple found her shoulder purse on a covered bridge on Eldean Road, located between Piqua and Troy. The purse contained her identification, a food stamp card, other personal belongings, and, most critically, the medication she needed for her high-risk pregnancy. The couple anonymously left the purse at a Kroger pharmacy in Piqua, which then led to law enforcement being notified. The discovery of her essential medication was a significant cause for concern for both her family and investigators. In the time since she disappeared, Nikki never picked up her final paycheck from her job, and her cell phone has remained inactive. The investigation into her disappearance is being handled by the Piqua Police Department. Over the years, authorities have looked into various leads, including excavating the backyard of her ex-boyfriend's property in 2017 after cadaver dogs indicated a scent, though the search did not yield any human remains. The case is classified as an endangered missing person due to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and her medical needs at the time. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, leaving a void for a family that continues to hope for answers regarding Nikki’s whereabouts.
