On a Tuesday evening in June of 1963, 18-year-old Linda Kay Britton walked out of her family's home in Cambridge, Ohio, for what should have been a short errand. She left at approximately 8:30 p.m. with the simple task of mailing a letter. Linda’s plan for the rest of the evening was to come back home to gather some clothes before heading to a friend's house to spend the night. She was last seen at around 10:30 p.m. that same night. Linda never made it back to her house and was never heard from again. At the time she went missing, she was wearing a distinctive outfit consisting of bright orange pants, a white hooded jacket, and pink-rimmed eyeglasses. Her disappearance was immediately considered out of character. Linda’s mother conveyed to investigators that her daughter was not one to leave without telling anyone and that she was generally uncomfortable being out on the streets by herself after dark. This, coupled with the fact that she never returned for her belongings to go to her friend's house, quickly led authorities to suspect that she may have been taken against her will. The Cambridge Police Department was notified the following day, June 12, 1963, and an investigation into her sudden disappearance commenced. Decades have passed since Linda Britton vanished, yet her case remains unsolved, shrouded in a profound lack of information. Over the years, various rumors have surfaced, including a false confession from a killer in Texas and speculation about unidentified remains found in the area, but none of these leads ever materialized into concrete evidence. The official investigation has yielded very few details, and no suspects have ever been publicly identified in connection with her disappearance. The case of Linda Kay Britton is a long-standing mystery in her small town, a poignant story of a young woman who stepped out for a mundane task and was never seen again, leaving her family and community with unanswered questions that have endured for decades.
