Mary had been put to bed at 9:30 p.m. by her aunt, and her family believed she was asleep. In the early hours of the morning, her parents and a disabled aunt heard what sounded like cries for help but dismissed them, thinking Mary was talking in her sleep. Her three brothers, who shared the bedroom with her, slept through the night undisturbed.
A neighbor reported seeing a man standing near the sliding glass door of the Lozano home at around 3:00 a.m. This door was later found unlocked, and the man fled when spotted. The police believe Mary was likely abducted by this individual. Despite an extensive search, no trace of Mary has ever been found, and there have been no suspects identified.
