Nancy Perry Baird, 23, disappeared on July 4, 1975, from East Layton, Utah, where she worked as an attendant at a Fina gas station. That afternoon, a patrol officer saw her working at around 5:15 p.m., but by 5:30 p.m., her manager arrived to take over her shift and found her missing. There were no signs of a struggle at the gas station, and Baird's purse, car keys, and a significant amount of cash remained untouched inside the station. Additionally, her car was still parked in the lot, further raising concerns that she did not leave voluntarily.

Authorities initially investigated various theories, including the involvement of serial killer Ted Bundy, who was active in the region during that time. Bundy, however, denied any involvement in Baird's disappearance, and her case did not follow some of his usual patterns.
