Andrew John Amato, a 4-year-old boy, disappeared on September 30, 1978, while playing in the woods near his home in Webster, Massachusetts. That morning, Andrew was with his sister and cousin, but after venturing deeper into the woods with his cousin, he tripped, fell, and lost a toy. Frustrated, Andrew began crying and refused to leave without finding the toy. His cousin returned to the house for help, but by the time they came back, Andrew had vanished.
Despite an intensive 10-day search involving the National Guard, no trace of Andrew was found. The woods where he disappeared were close to Route 52 (now Interstate 395), leading authorities to speculate that he may have been abducted by a passing motorist. Over the years, several leads emerged, including one involving notorious criminal Nathaniel Bar-Jonah, but no solid evidence linked him to the case. In 2003, another man confessed to Andrew’s murder on his deathbed, but even a search of the area where he claimed to have buried Andrew yielded no evidence.
Andrew's case remains unsolved, and foul play is suspected. Despite extensive investigations and various leads, no significant breakthroughs have been made.
