Bernice Morgan Cunningham, a 77-year-old woman, went missing from her home in Merritt Island, Florida, on October 18, 1992. She was last seen by neighbors that day and was in the midst of moving to Ocala, Florida, to be closer to her sister. Bernice was a widow and one of nine siblings, very close to her sister. She had already packed many of her belongings in preparation for the move, with plans to complete the relocation soon after. The day before she vanished, she had spoken to her sister on the phone, and everything seemed normal during their conversation. However, when her sister called again the next day, there was no answer.
After Bernice was reported missing, law enforcement officers arrived at her home and discovered her car parked in the driveway. Inside the house, all of her belongings were neatly packed, and there were no signs of a struggle or forced entry. Curiously, her daily medications, essential for managing her heart condition and asthma, were left behind in her nightstand drawer. Even more strangely, the bedsheets had been washed and folded. Despite these findings, there was no concrete evidence pointing to what might have happened to Bernice.
Search efforts, including the use of K-9 units, yielded no results. Authorities have been unsure whether Bernice was abducted, wandered off, or experienced some form of disorientation. Given her age and medical conditions, her family expressed concern that she could have become confused and lost her way. However, investigators also couldn't rule out the possibility of foul play. Despite the extensive search and investigations, her case remains unsolved to this day, leaving her disappearance a cold case that continues to baffle both authorities and her family.
