Harry Lewis Israel, an 83-year-old man from Pinellas Park, Florida, was last seen on December 8, 1996. At the time, he operated a storage facility located at his residence on 72nd Avenue North. Earlier that day, a repairman had been inside Israel's home, which was the last confirmed sighting of him. Israel was reported missing later that same day by his adult daughter. Despite no signs of forced entry and his car still being parked in the driveway, he had vanished without a trace. Neighbors reported nothing unusual, and Israel, who was known to drive even short distances due to a recent foot injury, had never spent a night away from home in his 30 years living in Florida.
Suspicion soon fell on Edward William Vanderbilt, a former tenant Israel had recently evicted for non-payment of rent. Investigators initially speculated that Israel may have become disoriented and wandered off, but their focus shifted to foul play when bloodstained carpet was discovered inside his home. This led authorities to reclassify the case as a homicide, though no arrests have been made, and Israel's body has never been found.
