In the early morning hours of March 29, 1997, 38-year-old Tonia Gay Aldrich was seen leaving a bar called Chris's Place in Elyria, Ohio. She was walking east on Clark Street, in the direction of Concord Avenue, and then she vanished. Tonia, a single mother, was never heard from again. The walk to her home was short, but only her purse made it there. That same night, her purse, containing her identification, was discovered on her mother's doorstep. Not realizing the gravity of the situation, her mother brought the purse inside. It wasn't until several days later, when Tonia's brother visited their mother's house and learned she had never come back for her belongings, that he reported her missing. Tonia was a woman who kept in close contact with her family, speaking to her brother's wife multiple times a week and always letting her loved ones know her whereabouts. Her sudden silence was uncharacteristic and alarming. At the time of her disappearance, Tonia may have been depressed and required daily medication to prevent seizures, which she did not have with her. She was described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, who used glasses for reading. She had a tattoo of a panda bear on her right shoulder and possibly a small star on her left shoulder. Her ears and navel were pierced. She may have been wearing a t-shirt, blue or black pants, a zip-up hooded sweatshirt, and sneakers on the night she went missing. The circumstances surrounding Tonia Aldrich's disappearance have led investigators and her family to suspect foul play. Since she was last seen, there has been no activity on her credit cards, Social Security number, or driver's license. Tonia's brother recalled her love for singing and her enjoyment of karaoke nights at local bars. The investigation into her disappearance remains open, handled by the Elyria Police Department. The case is a painful and unresolved chapter for her family, who continue to seek answers about what happened to her after she left the bar that March night. The lack of any contact or evidence of her whereabouts for so many years points to a grim conclusion, yet without answers, her loved ones are left in a state of perpetual uncertainty.
