Years later, in 2010, investigators received a tip and dug up the basement of a Queens shop once owned by a relative of Persaud's, but the search yielded no results. Kristine was described by her loved ones as a strong-willed and intelligent woman who was looking forward to becoming a mother. She was a philosophy major with plans to attend law school to become a civil rights attorney focusing on women's issues. In the years since she vanished, her family, particularly her sister Kathy, has worked tirelessly to keep her case in the public eye, even hiring a private investigator.
