Michael Costello, a 29-year-old commercial fisherman, went missing on February 27, 2005, while captaining his vessel, the *GulfCoaster*, in the Gulf of Mexico. He was last seen approximately 73 miles offshore from John's Pass, Madeira Beach, Florida, alongside another crew member, John Molina. The two men were expected to return that day, but after failing to make contact, a search was initiated by the U.S. Coast Guard on February 28.
On March 2, 2005, debris from the *GulfCoaster* was discovered, along with Molina's body. Despite an extensive search, Michael Costello's body was never found, and he is presumed to have perished in the incident. The cause of the mishap at sea remains unknown, and his disappearance has been classified as "lost or injured at sea".
