On a Saturday in late summer, August 25, 2007, 76-year-old Kennworth Eaton, a male resident of Eastport, New York, embarked on what should have been a routine flight in his Piper Cherokee 6 airplane. An experienced pilot, he had performed a standard inspection of his aircraft that morning and found it to be in good condition for flying. The weather conditions were also favorable for the short trip he planned from Spadaro Airstrip in East Moriches.
