Craig Hoskie, a 22-year-old Navy trainee, was last seen in the early hours of April 12, 2008, on Pensacola Beach, Florida, behind the Days Inn hotel. He had arrived with friends the previous evening, and they spent the night drinking and socializing. Around midnight, Hoskie and his friends decided to go swimming. One friend left the beach after some time but later returned to find Hoskie's belongings—his wallet, clothes, and shoes—still on the beach, with no sign of him.
Hoskie, a Native American of Navajo descent, was reportedly intoxicated but less so than his friends. Despite an extensive search of the area, no trace of him was found. His disappearance is believed to be a result of drowning, as conditions on the water that night were not favorable, but his body has never been recovered.
