Chad Howard Smith, a 38-year-old attorney, was last seen in Shepherdsville, Kentucky, on January 11, 2011. His disappearance followed a tumultuous evening that began with a heated argument with his wife at their home. The dispute reportedly escalated, after which the couple went to a Waffle House. While at the restaurant, Smith was involved in a minor car accident in the parking lot and left the scene, leaving his wife behind. She then contacted the police to file an assault complaint.
Later, during a phone call, his wife informed him that she was pressing charges and that he might also face charges for the hit-and-run and driving under the influence. During this conversation, he mentioned that his leg was injured and he couldn't put any weight on it. He has not been seen or heard from since that day.
The day after his disappearance, Smith's wife, accompanied by a police escort, returned to their home to find that neither he nor his car were there. He had left without his wallet, identification, money, cell phone, and even a coat, which was unusual for him. Two days later, his wife officially reported him as a missing person. On January 14, his vehicle was discovered abandoned in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, in the 100 block of South 7th Street. The car was located near the Ohio River, and in proximity to several hospitals and a Greyhound bus station. The keys were found on the center console, along with his cigarettes.
At the time of his disappearance, Chad Smith was described as a white male, standing at 6'1' to 6'2' and weighing between 135 and 190 pounds. He has red or auburn hair and blue eyes. He was believed to be wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, and white Adidas sneakers with red stripes. He also had a silver necklace and a silver belly button ring. Since he left without his contact lenses, it is presumed he would have been wearing his black-framed glasses. Smith, who had previously worked for the Bullitt County Attorney's office, had lost his job shortly before he went missing and was reportedly struggling with depression. While authorities have stated they do not suspect foul play, his family and friends remain deeply concerned for his well-being.
