In the small rural town of Aurora, Missouri, the first of March in 1985 began like any other day for 18-year-old Vijaykumar Parbhubhai Patel. Known affectionately as Victor or Vijay, he was a student at Aurora High School. That Friday, he was scheduled to work the noon to 7:00 p.m. shift at the restaurant his family-owned, a familiar place situated right next to the Sands Motel, which his family also managed since their arrival in the area in 1981.
