On a cold winter day in February 2001, 53-year-old John David Smith disappeared from the Springfield, Missouri, area. Known also by the nicknames Tom or Tommy, he was last seen on February 15th. His case became inextricably linked with that of his girlfriend, Maureen Webb, who vanished the very next day from her home in Bolivar, Missouri, after telling friends she was going to visit him.
