Richard Jargowsky Jr., a 46-year-old man from Upper Township, New Jersey, was last seen on February 8, 2008, under suspicious circumstances. Early that morning, Jargowsky called his mother, telling her that his house was on fire but expressing fear of contacting the authorities himself. His home was already facing foreclosure, with a scheduled auction just weeks away. Despite this, Jargowsky had recently signed an agreement to sell the house, which could have halted the foreclosure.
