Michael Britt, a 53-year-old sailor from Royal Palm Beach, Florida, disappeared under mysterious circumstances on September 16, 2011. Britt had set sail from West Palm Beach on September 12, 2011, intending to travel to Jacksonville, Florida, where he planned to store his 36-foot Beneteau sailboat before heading to Oklahoma City for a new job. However, on September 16, his sailboat was boarded by the U.S.
Coast Guard off the coast of Cape Canaveral during a routine inspection, and the vessel was found to be seaworthy. This was the last confirmed sighting of both Britt and his boat.
After this inspection, Britt contacted his father, informing him that due to light winds, he would be delayed in arriving in Jacksonville. However, he never reached his destination, and no one heard from him again. Despite efforts to locate him, Britt's disappearance, as well as that of his sailboat, remains unsolved.
