Lacey Buenfil, a 25-year-old mother of three, was last seen on December 27, 2011, in Altoona, Florida. On that day, she was with an acquaintance, Terry Kenneth McDowell, driving through the Ocala National Forest. The truck they were in got stuck in the sand on Railroad Grade Road. According to McDowell, Lacey left on foot to seek help and was never seen again. Bloodhounds tracked her scent to U.S. 19 but lost the trail, leading investigators to believe she may have gotten a ride. Her sudden disappearance is especially troubling, as it was out of character for her to abandon her children, with whom she maintained regular contact.
McDowell, who passed away in 2013, was considered a person of interest in the case. His death added to the mystery, as he never provided further information regarding Lacey's fate. Authorities continue to suspect foul play, and despite extensive search efforts in the Ocala National Forest, her case remains unsolved.
Lacey was last seen wearing a pink t-shirt, blue jeans, and possibly sandals. She had several distinguishing features, including pierced ears and tongue, and scars on her abdomen and right thigh. Her disappearance remains an open case, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact law enforcement.
