Originally from New Mexico, she had recently moved to Houston after meeting a man online, whom she eventually moved in with. Her disappearance followed a volatile period in her relationship, as she and her boyfriend had been arguing on the day she vanished. At some point that day, he disabled her car to prevent her from leaving the house.
Despite this, Kathy and her teenage daughter left on foot to go shopping and get something to eat. During this time, Kathy texted her boyfriend, telling him she was leaving him. They returned home later that evening, and Kathy was last seen falling asleep on the sofa in her daughter's room around 10:30 p.m.
When her daughter awoke the next morning, Kathy was gone. Her boyfriend claimed he had returned home around 5:00 a.m. and assumed Kathy was still asleep in the house. However, her daughter found that only a few of Kathy’s belongings were missing, including her keys, cell phone, and cigarettes. Most of her personal possessions, such as her ID, ATM card, wallet, clothes, and makeup, were left behind, which her family found unusual. Additionally, Kathy’s engagement ring and necklace, which she had been wearing the night before, were gone. Her family and friends strongly believe she would not have left without contacting them, as she was devoted to her children and had never gone missing before.
Despite extensive searches and efforts by Texas EquuSearch and law enforcement, no trace of Kathy has been found. While there is no concrete evidence of foul play, her family remains suspicious given the circumstances, especially since she left behind most of her belongings.
