In the quiet community of Trotwood, Ohio, a suburb of Dayton, the life of 50-year-old Julie A. Earley took a distressing turn, leaving her family and friends in a state of perpetual uncertainty. A compassionate and caring individual, Julie was known for her nurturing spirit, having worked as a nurse and a foster parent. She was a mother to two sons with special needs from a previous marriage, to whom she was deeply devoted. Julie managed her own health challenges, including Type 1 diabetes which required an insulin pump, and adhesive capsulitis, a painful condition also known as frozen shoulder. She also wore glasses and was described as being nearly blind without them. In the months leading up to her disappearance, Julie had purchased a new home, a place where she should have felt safe and secure. However, her life was not without turmoil, as her family has spoken of a troubled marriage. The last known day of Julie's presence began like any other on May 21, 2012. She had conversations with people on the phone that morning, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Later in the day, an argument reportedly took place over the phone between Julie's husband of seven years, Cregg Earley, and one of her sons. Cregg allegedly informed Julie that he did not want her son to visit for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. He stated that he last spoke with her at 3:30 p.m. before leaving for a roofing job. When he returned to their Molane Street home that evening, Julie was gone. According to her husband, her purse, curling iron, some of her medication, and a significant amount of cash were also missing. Despite her absence, he did not immediately report her missing, later telling authorities that she had left on previous occasions after arguments to stay with relatives. It wasn't until nine days later, on May 30, that Cregg Earley officially filed a missing person report with the Trotwood Police Department. The ensuing investigation into Julie's disappearance has been fraught with unanswered questions and a lack of concrete evidence. Searches of the area surrounding her home, including nearby woods, yielded no clues. Investigators found a few small blood spots in the garage of the home, but the samples were either too small for testing or the results were inconclusive. A significant point of concern for investigators and Julie's family was the fact that her prescriptions for her vital medications were never refilled, leading to her classification as an endangered missing person. There was also no activity on her bank or credit cards. Julie's family has been vocal about their belief that she met with foul play and have publicly expressed their suspicions regarding her husband's involvement, a claim he has consistently denied. The case gained national attention when the family and Cregg appeared on the "Dr. Phil" show, where he was confronted with allegations and maintained his innocence. The Trotwood Police Department has stated that they believe Cregg knows more than he has shared but lack the evidence to change the classification of the case from a missing person to a homicide. To this day, Julie Earley's whereabouts remain unknown, and her case is an unsolved and deeply felt loss for her loved ones who continue to hope for answers.
