On July 4, 2012, Richard "Dick" Boyce, a 63-year-old fisherman from Haines, Alaska, was reported missing after falling overboard from his commercial fishing vessel, the F/V Eleanor S., near Mab Island, approximately 25 miles north of Juneau. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. while Boyce and his daughter, Karen, who was also his deckhand, were gillnet fishing in the area.
