John Lloyd "Buddy" Heflin, aged 24, was last seen on November 21, 1968, in Starkville, Mississippi. Heflin, who had a history of involvement with questionable associates, was reported missing after leaving his sister's residence. He had been involved in criminal activity and was arrested for burglary in 1967 and later on vagrancy and drug charges in 1968. After being released, Heflin was reportedly dropped off by his mother at a friend’s house, but he never returned home.
At the time of his disappearance, Heflin had been living separately from his wife and children, who had moved to Chicago. Although he occasionally went missing for periods of time, his family became concerned when he didn't return. There were rumors that Heflin may have been killed near Vicksburg or Jackson and that his body was thrown into the Mississippi River, but these claims have never been verified. His vehicle, believed to be a Volkswagen, was also never found. Despite these leads, his case remains unsolved.
