Jeremy Coots, a 4-year-old boy from Atchison, Kansas, was last seen on February 18, 1977. Jeremy, who had a severe hearing impairment, was at his babysitter's home playing outside with the babysitter's son. This was the first time Jeremy had been allowed to play outside without constant supervision, and he wandered away, heading toward the east.
Despite an extensive five-day search involving search dogs, his scent was tracked to the banks of the Missouri River, leading authorities to believe he fell into the river and drowned. However, his body was never recovered.
At the time of his disappearance, Jeremy was wearing a blue coat with patches, light-colored pants, and cowboy boots, and he was also using a Maico hearing aid. His family held a memorial service for him shortly after his disappearance, although no conclusive evidence of what happened has been found.
