Dorothy Turley Bolton, a 69-year-old woman, was last seen on January 1, 1983, at her rural home on Greenwood Ridge Road, east of Elk, California. She lived with her husband in a trailer surrounded by dense woods and steep terrain. On the day of her disappearance, Dorothy and her husband were watching a football game when they had a brief conversation about the cost of a new trailer license.
Shocked by the expense, Dorothy walked out of the house without taking her coat, money, or car, and was never seen again.
Dorothy had been facing several challenges in the years leading up to her disappearance. She was recovering from two car accidents that left her with lasting injuries, and she had expressed concern about their financial situation. Despite these factors, her husband and family did not believe she would have taken her own life or run away.
