George Greenshields, a 30-year-old man, was last seen in Tampa, Florida, on October 30, 1989. He had attended Tampa's Guavaween festival, a popular Halloween celebration, dressed as the Joker from Batman. It is believed that he returned to his apartment afterward, as his Joker costume and personal belongings, including his clothes, car keys, and Jeep Cherokee, were found there. However, his wallet was missing, and he was never heard from again.

Greenshields had a history of legal troubles, having been on probation for possession of Valium. Despite this, he had been complying with the terms of his probation and was close to completing it when he disappeared. Investigators initially suspected that his disappearance could be linked to a probation violation, but his probation officer indicated that he did not fit the profile of someone who would deliberately vanish to evade the law.

In the months following his disappearance, a warrant was issued for his arrest due to a probation violation, but no further leads emerged. Greenshields's driver's license expired in 1992, and it was never renewed, further deepening the mystery around his case.
