On a December evening in 1990, 42-year-old Barry James Sheridan, a husband and father from Connecticut, was working as a seaman on a barge docked in Brooklyn, New York. Around 8:00 p.m. on December 11th, he told a crewmate he was leaving the boat to make a phone call to his family. It was his daughter's fifth birthday, and he intended to wish her a happy birthday.
