Donovan Rodriguez, a 57-year-old flight instructor from Michigan, was last seen on July 3, 1998, when he co-piloted a high-performance L-39 Albatros jet alongside Donald Schaller. The two men departed from Cherry Capital Airport at 6:30 p.m. that evening, preparing for an air show during the National Cherry Festival in Traverse City.
