In the early evening hours of a summer day in 1999, a young man named Christopher Michael Collyer, known to his friends and family as Chris, was with others near the Colorado River in Rifle, Colorado. The 19-year-old decided to go for a swim, diving into the water from a concrete pier and heading away from the bank.
