On June 22, 1999, 19-year-old Christopher Collyer went missing while swimming in the Colorado River near Rifle, Colorado. That evening, Collyer dove into the river from a concrete retaining wall. As he attempted to swim back to shore, the fast-moving current swept him away. Despite extensive search efforts by law enforcement and rescue teams, no trace of him was ever found. Collyer is presumed to have drowned, although his body was never recovered.
