Ezra Lok Lui, a 2-year-old boy, was last seen on November 13, 1999, in Irvine, California. At the time, Ezra was under the sole custody of his father, Samuel Lui, due to legal actions taken against his mother, Terumi Kakiuchi, for spousal abuse. Despite this, Kakiuchi was granted an overnight visit with Ezra on the day of his disappearance. Instead of returning him, she fled with Ezra, possibly taking him to Japan. She is also known to use the alias Satori Kawamura.
Efforts by Samuel Lui to regain custody were partially recognized by Japanese courts, which allowed him minimal contact with his son, but Samuel has not seen Ezra since 2004. Ezra, who is of Chinese and Japanese descent, was believed to be living in Osaka, Japan, with his mother. Various age-progressed images of Ezra have been released over the years in hopes of locating him, but no significant breakthroughs have been made in the case.
The Los Angeles District Attorney's Office continues to manage the case, encouraging the public to provide any information that might help reunite Ezra with his father. Despite the time that has passed, authorities still seek leads in this family abduction case.
