Gene Jacob Cloud Jr., a 20-year-old Native American man, went missing on January 25, 2012, near Black River Falls, Wisconsin. On that evening, after leaving his girlfriend's residence, Gene's vehicle got stuck in a ditch along Highway O in Jackson County. A sheriff’s deputy arrived to assist but, upon asking Gene for identification, he fled into the nearby woods, taking his six-month-old Dachshund with him.
Gene had several outstanding minor warrants, which may explain his decision to run. His car was registered to his girlfriend’s sister, adding to his concerns.
Searchers tracked Gene’s footprints for over three miles through deep snow, but his trail was lost near a road, leading to speculation that he might have been picked up by a passing vehicle. Despite exhaustive efforts, including the use of tracking dogs, Gene has not been seen or heard from since. His phone and social media accounts have remained inactive. Gene's family firmly believes he would not have disappeared voluntarily, especially given that he was expecting a child and had recently returned to school to support his new family.
