On a summer night in July 2013, 21-year-old Colt Haynes and a 17-year-old friend, Molly Miller, vanished from Wilson, Oklahoma. Their disappearance followed a high-speed police chase while they were passengers in a car driven by James Conn Nipp. After the chase was called off, the vehicle reportedly crashed. Nipp was able to walk away, but Haynes and Miller were left behind. In the hours that followed, both Haynes and Miller made a series of desperate phone calls to friends, pleading for help and water, stating they were lost. Haynes specifically told friends he believed he had a broken ankle. The car Nipp had been driving was discovered abandoned in the woods about two weeks later, but there was no sign of Colt or Molly. For years, their families and friends searched for answers, facing numerous challenges and frustrations. The investigation was complex, with suspicions of a cover-up and corruption within local law enforcement, as the sheriff at the time was related to the driver of the car. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation took over the case in 2014, but for a long time, leads seemed to go nowhere. In a significant development, human remains were discovered in February 2026, in an area that had not been previously searched. In April 2026, these remains were positively identified as those of Colt Haynes and Molly Miller. While this discovery brought a long-awaited and heartbreaking confirmation to their families, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain under active investigation. Authorities have not released a cause of death, but have indicated that the case may be presented to a grand jury for potential charges, suggesting that foul play is suspected. The case of Colt Haynes, which began as a missing person report after a police chase, has now transitioned into a death investigation, leaving his loved ones to continue their quest for justice and a full understanding of what happened in the woods of Love County.
