In July of 2013, the family of 81-year-old Wallace "Wally" Dunn became concerned when he failed to make his customary contact. A retired doctor who had practiced in the Anchorage, Alaska, area for decades, Dunn was known to be active and in good health for his age. He had last been seen in Anchorage on July 11, 2013, with the intention of spending the weekend at his cabin in Big Lake. This trip was a regular part of his routine, as he divided his time between Texas in the winter and Alaska in the summer. His daughter, with whom he was very close, reported him missing on July 16th after not hearing from him, which was highly out of character. At the time of his disappearance, Dunn was described as a Caucasian male, 5'6" to 5'7" tall, weighing between 150 and 165 pounds, with white hair, a medium-length beard and mustache, and blue eyes. He also had a distinctive shuffling walk and might have had red sores on the top of his head. The investigation into Wallace Dunn's disappearance began with the discovery of his vehicle. His 1998 gray Ford F-150 pickup truck was found locked and abandoned at the end of West Susitna Parkway, several miles from his cabin. Witnesses reported seeing the truck parked in that location as early as the afternoon of July 12th. Inside the truck, investigators found his shotgun, a container of spoiled food, and in the open bed of the truck were his chainsaw and generator. The discovery of his truck and personal belongings without any sign of Dunn intensified the search efforts in the surrounding area. An extensive search was launched, but no trace of Wallace Dunn was ever found. A possible sighting was reported on July 13th of a man matching his description near the Montana Creek Campground, who mentioned wanting to walk or hitchhike to Denali National Park, but this lead did not result in finding him. Dunn was reportedly showing early signs of Alzheimer's Disease, which may have included some memory and directional issues. His daughter stated that his disappearance was completely uncharacteristic of his behavior. Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the concern of his family, the case of Wallace Dunn's disappearance remains unsolved, leaving his loved ones without answers. The circumstances surrounding his last known movements and the discovery of his truck continue to be a mystery.
