Kay McCoy, 57 years old, was last seen around May 2012 in Jasper, Texas, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law. Her family did not report her missing until months later, with concerns raised by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in October 2013. The agency contacted the authorities because Kay's mentally disabled daughter, who lived in a care facility, had not heard from her mother.
Additionally, Kay's bank had reported no activity on her account for over a year.
Kay, described as a survivalist and "doomsday prepper," had a strained relationship with her family, and her daughter claimed it wasn't unusual for her to disappear for long periods without notifying anyone. However, investigators found it suspicious that no vehicles were missing from her home, and despite her receiving Social Security benefits, none of the funds were accessed after her disappearance.
In 2019, Kay's daughter, Kristina Hicks, and son-in-law, Robert Hicks, were charged with financial fraud for using her bank account after her disappearance.
