She was a wealthy widow, having inherited millions from her late husband, Frank Brach, who owned the E. J. Brach & Sons candy company. Following her appointment at the clinic, Helen was last seen purchasing items from a gift shop, reportedly stating she was in a hurry because her houseman, Jack Matlick, was waiting for her.
