Rolf Neslund, a retired ship's pilot, was last seen on August 5, 1980, at the age of 79, at his home on Lopez Island, Washington. His disappearance quickly turned into a notorious case when suspicions fell on his wife, Ruth Neslund. The couple had a troubled relationship, marked by frequent alcohol-fueled arguments and violent altercations.
