In the autumn of 1985, a sense of unease settled over a family in North Carolina when Paul Wayne Gaye, a 48-year-old man, vanished without a trace. On October 11, he was last seen in Polkton, a small town in Anson County. Concern grew when his girlfriend reported that she had not heard from him, which was out of character.
