In the summer of 1986, Georgia Lee Rohner, a 36-year-old woman, vanished from the small mountain town of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She had relocated to the area in 1985 and was working at a convenience store in Chama, New Mexico, just over the state line. The store was owned by a local Pagosa Springs businessman named Anthony James Mymern, who went by his middle name, James. Georgia was not just an employee but also an associate of Mymern.
Friends and family last had contact with her in July of that year, after which she was never heard from again. It was said that she had plans to move to California, where she had relatives, but she never made it.
Following her disappearance, James Mymern, provided conflicting stories about her whereabouts. He claimed to have driven her to the airport so she could fly to California, but also stated that she had left for California on a motorcycle. Shortly after she was last seen, Mymern and another individual were seen at Georgia's apartment, where they cleaned out all of her personal belongings, including her makeup and toiletries. This strange behavior, coupled with the inconsistent accounts of her departure, raised suspicions among those who knew Georgia and eventually with law enforcement.
Years passed with no sign of Georgia Rohner, and the case grew cold. However, the actions of James Mymern in the years that followed would cast an even darker shadow over her disappearance. In 2001, Mymern shot his estranged wife in Kingman, Arizona. She survived the attack, and he was subsequently charged with attempted murder. While awaiting trial in January 2002, Mymern took his own life in his jail cell. He remains the primary suspect in Georgia Rohner's disappearance, and authorities suspect foul play was involved in her case.
