Claudia Mathieu, a 37-year-old woman, was last seen on December 9, 1997, in Dana Point, California. She informed friends that she planned to go kayaking the next day from Dana Point Harbor. On December 10, after her disappearance, her white Toyota RAV4 was found parked at Doheny State Park, with her German Shepherd inside a cage in the locked vehicle. It was highly uncharacteristic of Claudia to leave her dog unattended, which raised immediate concerns.
